Running Head: Spinal and Supraspinal Predictors of RTD Spinal and Supraspinal Motor Control Predictors of Rate of Torque Development

چکیده
During explosive movements and potentially injurious situations the ability to rapidly generate torque is critical. Previous research has suggested different phases of rate of torque development (RTD) are differentiately controlled. However, the extent to which supraspinal and spinal mechanisms predict RTD at different time intervals is unknown. RTD of the plantarflexors across various phases of contraction (i.e., 0-25ms, 0-50ms, 0-100ms, 0-150ms, 0-200ms, and 0-250ms) was measured in 37 participants. The following predictor variables were also measured: (a) gain of the resting soleus H-reflex recruitment curve, (b) gain of the resting homonymous post-activation depression recruitment curve, (c) gain of the GABAergic pre-synaptic inhibition recruitment curve, (d) the level of post-synaptic recurrent inhibition at rest, (e) level of supraspinal drive assessed by measuring V waves, and (f) the gain of the resting soleus M Wave. Stepwise regression analyses were used to determine which variables significantly predicted allometrically scaled RTD. The analyses indicated that supraspinal drive was the dominant predictor of RTD across all phases. Additionally, recurrent inhibition predicted RTD in all of the t ime intervals except 0-150 ms. These results demonstrate the importance of supraspinal drive and recurrent inhibition to RTD.

متن کاملSpinal and supraspinal analgesic effects of Nimodipine : The role of Hypothalamo-Pituitary-Adrenal(HPA) axis .
Nimodipine, an L-type calcium channel blocker, can induce analgesia. However, it is not clear that this analgesic effect is at the level of spinal or supraspinal pain pathway. In addition, it has been reported that the analgesic effect of nifedipine, another L-type calcium channel blocker is related to the HPA axis, but there is no report indicating the role of this axis in the analgesic eff...

Objective(s): To reach an evidence-based knowledge in the context of the temporal-spatial pattern of neuronal death and find appropriate time of intervention in order to preserve spared neurons and promote regeneration after traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI). Materials and Methods: The study design was based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA)-guided...
متن کاملTowards a Hierarchical Neuromuscular Control Model with Reflex-based Spinal Control - Study with a Simple Running Model
Humans can generate diverse locomotion behaviors through the hierarchical control of the supraspinal and the spinal systems, where the spinal control is often assumed to consist of central pattern generators and reflexes. It has been demonstrated through simulation that human walking and running can be generated with control models where the central pattern generator is controlled in a hierarch...
متن کاملContribution of supraspinal systems to generation of automatic postural responses
Different species maintain a particular body orientation in space due to activity of the closed-loop postural control system. In this review we discuss the role of neurons of descending pathways in operation of this system as revealed in animal models of differing complexity: lower vertebrate (lamprey) and higher vertebrates (rabbit and cat). In the lamprey and quadruped mammals, the role of sp...
